“Threading Through” will feature diverse approaches to quilt making, including traditional hand-stitched quilts, installation, sculptural and applique.

The exhibition includes quilts from the University Art Galleries Northern Plains Indian Art Collection, USD’s faculty and staff, Department of Art alumni and local community members. Featured artists include Elise Boxer, Joann Hoffman, Amy Jarding, Sara Lampert, Marilyn Nellum, Michael Suing, Gwyn Nell Westerman and Angela Zonunpari.

“A quilt at its most basic is two pieces of fabric on either side of a piece of batting held together by quilting stiches. The approach to quilting is just as vast as the types of quilters who quilt,” said Amy Fill, University Art Galleries director. “Some use traditional quilt block patterning, while modern quilters use bold colors and graphic areas of color that break away from the grid. Art quilting explores new methods of construction and deconstruction of the quilt concept.”

“Threading Through” is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information about the exhibit, please contact Amy Fill, University Art Galleries Director, at 605-658-3437 or Amy.Fill@usd.edu.
