The event, which is free and open to the public, includes special performances by USD’s Rawlins Piano Trio, a jazz combo, and select soloists. One of the many music selections is “Rosina’s aria” from the opera “The Barber of Seville,” according to David Holdhusen, Ph.D., interim chair of the department of music, director of Choral Activities and the Douglas and Susan Tuve Distinguished Professorship in Choral Music at USD.

“I think we’ve done an excellent job of mixing and matching selections that audiences will really enjoy,” added Holdhusen, who says this is the first time in his eight years at USD that the department of music has done something like this with its faculty in Rapid City. “This is a great opportunity for the Rapid City area to appreciate the talented faculty that we have at USD and get a glimpse of some of the great things that we are doing here.”

The South Canyon Lutheran Church is located at 700 S 44th Street in Rapid City. Michael Rathke, a USD alum, is the musical conductor for the church and is helping to coordinate the event. In addition to the Feb. 6 concert, the USD Music Faculty will host choir, band and orchestra clinics and workshops for high school students in the Sturgis and Lead-Deadwood areas on Feb. 6. There will also be a scholarship and recruitment event at the church on Saturday, Feb. 7 for local high school students interested in auditioning for the USD Department of Music.
