VFW Post 3061 in Vermillion supplied the poppies. The artwork will be shown during a silent auction 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Muenster Center Ballroom C. Free-will donations will be accepted at the door and all proceeds will be donated to the post.

The art project will not only raise awareness to veteran contributions but also aims to show future social studies teachers how to implement similar projects in their classrooms.

“This art project shows our future teachers that our community is a great resource they can use in teaching,” said Jing Williams, Ph.D., assistant professor of social studies education. “Integrating art with social studies allows our future teachers to find creative ways to connect with history. In other words, we are not just learning about social studies, we are doing social studies."
