Professor Thomas Horton received the 2016 John Wesley Jackson Memorial Award for Professor of the Year and adjunct professor Kevin Stoos received the Adjunct of the Year Award.

Horton teaches trial techniques and antitrust & consumer protection at USD Law. He also coaches the law school’s trial teams. His nomination cites his encouraging attitude and dedication to helping students achieve their very best. As recipient of the Jackson Award, Horton will have the honor of assisting the dean of the Law School with hooding the graduates at the annual Hooding Ceremony to be held 3-5 p.m., Friday, May 6, in Aalfs Auditorium on the USD campus in Vermillion. The John Wesley Jackson Memorial Award for Outstanding Professor of Law recognizes USD law professors for their hard work and dedication to excellence at USD Law.  

Stoos currently teaches insurance as an adjunct and is serving as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Board advisor and coach. He is cited as being one of the key factors in their success this year. His tireless enthusiasm for teaching and coaching a key factor in his recognition. The Adjunct Professor of the Year Award, inaugurated in 2015, goes to an adjunct who goes above and beyond expectations to help provide an outstanding academic learning environment for law students as well as the amount of time volunteered outside the classroom.
