“Find Farber,” a U. News commentary from the fall 2010 semester, was produced by Kevin LaHood-Burns of Piedmont, S.D., John Larson of Chamberlain, S.D., and Chris Kirkeby of Rapid City, S.D., and features U. News Commentary Host Garet Friedrichsen of Denison, Iowa in a takeoff on gumshoe “film noirs” with the private eye on a mission to locate the missing “Doc” Farber statue on the USD campus. This short film will go head-to-head against student entries from across the country. Short movies on any subject (documentary, short fiction, animation and musical) were permitted as long as the movie was no longer than 15 minutes.

Additionally, former USD student Carlos de Leon will be showing two music videos at the sixth Siouxland Film Festival. Originally from South Sioux City, Neb., de Leon now resides in Sioux Falls, S.D. A portion of the movie, “Ride with Larry,” featuring Larry Smith of Vermillion, will be shown at the festival. Smith, despite suffering from Parkinson’s disease, plans to ride a special bicycle from Aberdeen to Vermillion in June during Tour de Kota to raise money and awareness for Parkinson’s research. “Ride with Larry” is being directed by Ricardo Villarreal and Andrew Rubin.

All 21 films will be shown at the afternoon session at 2 p.m. as well as the evening session at 7 p.m. Following the films, those in attendance are invited to stay after the evening’s screenings to meet the filmmakers and vote for the Audience Favorite Award.
