Two students from The U, Kyle Mulder and Brandon Bruder, each received a $15,000 start-up grant from N2Tech. Bruder is from Yankton, S.D., while Mulder, who is from Canton, S.D., also received a $2,500 cash prize at the 2009 Governor's Giant Vision Business Awards Competition. Additionally, three USD students were awarded $500 each at the 2009 Governor’s Giant Vision Business Awards Competition, which was April 16 in Sioux Falls, S.D., during the Giant Vision and ABEX Awards Program.

Alex Smith of Gettysburg, S.D., and Cassie Garner and Matthew Hardy of Sioux Falls, each received $500 at the 2009 Giant Vision Business Awards Competition. The Giant Vision program was established to challenge students to develop viable business ideas and an opportunity to network with successful entrepreneurs. Hosted by the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce & Industry, prizes are awarded annually to young entrepreneurs in a business plan and student categories.

The Entrepreneurship Team (E-Team) at The U also garnered a big honor from the South Dakota Board of Regents. The E-Team is the 2009 recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Award for demonstrating "outstanding activities that provide effective student or community leadership." The award was announced in April but presented during the BOR meeting on campus Friday.

Established at The University of South Dakota in 2004, the E-Team is dedicated to promoting the advancement of entrepreneurship in the state through network building, local business and organization consultation, and club-related business operation. Members of the E-Team are not strictly business majors and range from freshman to senior students at USD
