Unite for USD is an online and on-campus event designed to unite all members of the Coyote community in support of high-impact programs on campus. In recognition of 1862, the year USD was founded, the giving day will span for 1,862 minutes from Feb. 12 at 10:57 a.m. to Feb. 13 at 6 p.m.

Last year, 853 gifts were received during Unite for USD totaling $238,730.

“Unite for USD is a celebration that allows us to connect with the entire Coyote community locally and across the globe and provides opportunities to make an impact here on campus, said President Sheila K. Gestring. “With a variety of initiatives across the university, every contributor can give to the area that is most important to them. Every gift makes an impact, no matter the size, and is what continues to propel our university forward.”

The kick-off event takes place Wednesday morning at 10:57 a.m. in the Muenster University Center Pit Lounge. It is open to the public. Charlie Coyote and USD Cheer will perform, guest speakers will discuss the purpose of Unite for USD and students will be given the opportunity to participate in a “Price is Right” activity for a chance to raise money for Charlie’s Cupboard, one of the priority initiatives of this year’s giving day.

During halftime of the USD Men’s Basketball against Western Illinois on Wednesday at 7 p.m., the Coyote community is invited to join USD’s Head Football Coach Bob Nielson as he leads the crowd in a collective coyote howl. Hoping for a large crowd, USD will attempt to break a world record for most people to howl at once.

“The celebration and howl at halftime are both great representations of what Unite for USD is all about,” said Hailie Warren, USD’s public relations officer. “Getting the Coyote community together to celebrate all that USD has to offer and combining our efforts to continue moving forward is how we continue to succeed in all areas across campus.”
