University of South Dakota to Celebrate Third Annual Unite for USD Feb 18 and 19
Unite for USD is an online and on-campus event designed to unite all members of the Coyote community in support of high-impact programs on campus. In recognition of 1862, the year of USD’s founding, giving day will span 1,862 minutes from Feb. 18 at 10:58 a.m. to Feb. 19 at 6 p.m.
During the 2020 Unite for USD, 1,137 gifts were received totaling $560,191.
USD was recently announced as a recipient of TikTok’s Health Heroes initiative, receiving a gift of $1 million. This gift will be leveraged on giving day as a challenge and serve as an inspiration to donors to give back to the university.
“Unite for USD is an opportunity to bring the Coyote community together to celebrate and look ahead to what’s next for students,” said President Sheila K. Gestring. “Our alumni and friends are strongly committed to supporting our students and the university’s most important initiatives, and their efforts are key to driving the university forward. Unite for USD also presents an opportunity for our students to come together and show their Coyote pride, as this event empowers them to support the programs and causes they care about most.”
This year, giving day has several livestream events over the 31 hours of fundraising. In addition to attending virtual events, students may join in the celebration by visiting the MUC Pit Lounge for giveaways and adding their name to the “Paw Wall” of supporters.
Donors can support students through 19 initiatives, with new initiatives this year including the Institute of American Indian Studies, the Student Emergency Fund and the Take Your Seat campaign.
“Giving day is so important to the success of our students and advancing USD,” said Steve Brown, USD Foundation president and CEO. “USD has so much to offer, and we are so thankful to have a community of Coyotes that continues to show up and support our students.”
