Stang has been on the faculty of the University of Utah since 1969 and is a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and the David P. Gardner Presidential Chair. His research covers molecular architecture and supramolecular chemistry through self-assembly.

Another area of his research is the rapid assembly of nanoscale molecular devices for practical applications. He graduated with his Ph.D. in 1966 from the University of California as a NIH Fellow. Stang worked as a postdoctoral research scientist at Princeton University until 1968.

The Haines Lecture is sponsored by the USD Department of Chemistry and the Dr. Charles R. Estee Fund. The Haines Lecture was established in 1956 in honor of Arthur Lee Haines, a member of the USD Department of Chemistry for 71 years.

The lecture begins at 7:00 p.m. in Churchill Haines Room 118. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the USD Chemistry Department at (605) 677-5487.
