This is the highest level of recognition that a chapter can earn as part of the Chapter Honor Roll Program. Qualifying for highest honors is indicative of a campus where academic excellence is highly valued and where the faculty officers of the chapter work diligently to enhance Beta Gamma Sigma’s stature on campus.

“I’m extremely proud of the amount of dedication the members of Beta Gamma Sigma have demonstrated,” said instructor Erin Cornelsen, chapter advisor for Beta Gamma Sigma. “Being recognized as a chapter with highest honors is an amazing accomplishment that reflects on the commitment and hard work of its chapter members at the Beacom School of Business.”

As a part of their recognition, the USD chapter was able to send one student to the 2018 Global Leadership Summit in Chicago, Illinois, which took place Nov. 1-4. Pierce Libbey was selected to represent USD and was provided a Global Leadership Summit Registration Scholarship to cover the cost of the trip.

“It was pretty special to have been selected to go represent the University of South Dakota and the Beacom School of Business at a global event,” said Pierce. “I am honored that my professors selected me, and quite thankful that I got to attend.”

According to Libbey, roughly 400 business students from universities around the world gathered in Chicago for the Global Leadership Summit. There he had the opportunity to meet and network with new people. The days were packed with speakers and activities covering a wide range of topics, such as leveraging personal strengths and how to understand body language while negotiating with people. The GLS culminated in a case competition where students were split into groups, given a problem and allotted three hours to solve the issue and prepare a presentation with a solution.

Beta Gamma Sigma is a business honorary that recognizes academic excellence in business studies only at schools that are AACSB accredited (Association for the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business). Students who are inducted are considered lifetime members. More than 625,000 individuals have been inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma since 1913.
