USD Community has Record Participation in 2021 United Way Campaign
USD reached its goal of becoming the highest contributing employer in Vermillion with 157 donors giving over $37,600. Faculty and staff also had the option to volunteer or pledge their commitment to the betterment of the community.
“In a year that has been so challenging for citizens in need and non-profits, the amazing response from the USD community is especially gratifying,” said Kelsey Collier-Wise, mayor of Vermillion and United Way of Vermillion executive director. “Even though we couldn't talk about the campaign in person, USD stepped up to make sure that programs providing some of the most important services in our area would continue to be supported.”
To encourage support, USD United Way campaign committee members created a friendly competition between departments. The USD Knudson School of Law won the competition, generating the most individual pledges, and were awarded heart-shaped cookies.
“Congratulations to the Knudson School of Law for winning the cookies and having the largest number of donors, volunteers and supporters,” said Scott Pohlson, USD vice president of enrollment, marketing and university relations and United Way of Vermillion board of directors member. “All of these funds stay right here in Vermillion to support our community which includes many of us at USD. Thank you once again to our USD supporters who stepped up in remarkable numbers, continuing our pride in Coyote Nation!”
Funds raised during the campaign will provide vital resources through local programs such as the USD Vucurevich Children’s Center, Imagination Library, Vermillion Food Pantry, Domestic Violence Safe Options Services, Salvation Army and Red Cross Swim Lessons.
Founded in 1956 by local citizens who wanted to work together to build a better community, the United Way of Vermillion supports 28 local organizations that support residents at every age and stage of life, from early childhood education through our seniors.
