USD Fall Music Schedule Includes Recitals Concerts Competitions and Lectures
USD’s music faculty presents its annual "Welcome Back Recital" at 11 a.m. Sept. 17 to students and members of the public.
Fall guest artists bring additional learning and performance experience to students, faculty and music lovers from the region. South Dakota Symphony conductor Delta David Gier talks about Gustav Mahler and his symphonies at 11 a.m., Sept. 24. USD’s own world-acclaimed recording artists, the Rawlins Piano Trio, performs at 8 p.m., Sept. 28.
The USD Department of Music also provides clinics, competitions and festivals throughout the year. This semester includes the South Dakota High School All-State Chorus workshop on Oct. 7, where David Holdhusen, interim chair of the music department, unites area high school musicians in a day of learning and fun, culminating in a 4 p.m. concert. Then on Oct. 17 bands from five states compete and perform in the DakotaDome at the Quad State Marching Competition.
Other fall events include USD ensembles, the USD Opera performing "The Elixir of Love” and The Sound of USD marching band performing for Coyote home football games.
