This showcase of visual, dramatic and musical arts performances is free and open to the public and a great opportunity for fine arts enthusiasts to see USD Fine Arts students at their finest.

“The overall goal for this event is to help the Sioux Falls area learn more about what the College of Fine Arts has to offer and to showcase our fine arts students to the audience bringing awareness of their amazing talent and achievements,” said Larry Schou, Ph.D., dean of the College of Fine Arts.

Besides highlighting the talents of USD Fine Arts students, this event also gives potential students a glimpse into life as a Coyote. Mark Petty, dean of enrollment, stated that many preparations have already been made to promote the event to prospective students and their families. “We have worked with each of the colleges to have representation at the Washington Pavilion. We also sent out posters to high schools and invitations to prospective students around the region inviting them to the event.”

Steve Schaeffer, a senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., will be the evening’s emcee and will also perform a piece from his New York City senior industry showcase. In his four years at USD, he has enjoyed his many experiences in the department.

“I like being a fine arts student because of the quality we receive in education, the community, and the attention we get for the price we pay,” he explained. Schaeffer also says he encourages people to attend the event, which includes material the students have performed in class or on stage.

“I like the Night at the Pavilion because it helps widen our brand as an arts program,” he said. “I think it’s a great opportunity to impress people from outside of Vermillion and get them on board with what we have to offer.”
