USD Hosts Second Triennial Interdisciplinary Symposium Jan 30 31
“The symposium explores the human experience and how we seek to understand our environment and the world around us,” said Paul Lombardi, Ph.D., assistant professor of music. “The environment we explore is not just limited to our physical surroundings, but also includes our social, political, philosophical, psychological or emotional realms.”
Frank Diaz, Ph.D., an associate professor of music education at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, will deliver the keynote address Jan. 30 from 11 – 11:50 a.m. in the Colton Recital Hall in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. Along with his work as an educator and conductor, Diaz is an active researcher on topics such as mindfulness in arts education, contemplative science and teacher wellness.
The symposium also features presentations from faculty members in the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Fine Arts, the School of Education, the School of Law and the Sanford School of Medicine. Additionally, participants can enjoy the 34th annual Stilwell Student Awards Exhibition on display at the John A. Day Gallery and “Of Ebony Embers,” a chamber music theatre work celebrating the art of the Harlem Renaissance, by Core Ensemble with Dracyn Blount and Mikael Darmanie.
All the “Sound, Color, Shape…” presentations are open to students and the public.
