USD International Forum series program presents Against Our Better Judgment
The program, which is free and open to the public, is part of the monthly International Forum series at USD and is sponsored by the Beacom School of Business. Moderator of the event is Benno Wymar, Ph.D., professor emeritus, Beacom School of Business. “Against Better Judgment” will focus on U.S. news coverage of Israel-Palestine, describe and show photos of her trips to the region as a freelance reporter, and present little-known information about her upcoming book on the history of U.S.-Israel relations.
Weir, a former journalist, has written extensively on the Middle East conflict, traveled independently in the West Bank and Gaza, and traveled the world to speak about her experiences and her findings. She is executive director and founder of If Americans Knew, a think tank that focuses on Israel-Palestine, and president of the Council for the National Interest based in Washington, D.C.
In addition to a speaking tour in England and Wales, Weir has spoken at venues such as Harvard, Stanford, the Naval Postgraduate Institute, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and several college campuses. She has also spoken at two briefings on Capitol Hill, Asia Media Summits in Kuala Lumpur and Beijing, and the University of Qatar. In March of 2004, Weir was inducted into honorary membership of Phi Alpha Literary Society, founded in 1845 at Illinois College.
