“Ms. Theeler is a remarkable lawyer and USD Law is confident she will be an excellent judge,” said Thomas Geu, dean of USD’s School of Law. “She is a wonderful example that USD Law continues to fulfill its role to provide lawyers and judges across South Dakota and we are proud of her.”

Theeler is an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s office, a position she has held since 2012, and serves as that office’s Deputy Civil Chief. Previously, she practiced for nine years with Lynn, Jackson, Schultz and Lebrun in Sioux Falls.

A Pierre native, Theeler graduated from USD in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in English and from USD Law in 2000. She was a law clerk in South Dakota’s First Judicial Circuit from 2001-02. She was the 2009 South Dakota Young Lawyer of the Year.

The USD School of Law was recently ranked as a best value law school by the National Jurist for the seventh year in a row and continues to produce most of the state’s top lawyers serving private and public legal practice.
