USD med school aids with launch of rural research education initiative
VERMILLION, S.D. -- The Freeman Regional Health System, Rural Medical Clinics, P.A., and the Department of Family Medicine of the Sanford School of Medicine of The University of South Dakota have agreed to work cooperatively through an initiative focused on rural research and health professions education.
The goals of the Rural Research and Education Initiative are to:
- Stimulate the development of research projects of mutual interest
- Expand professional education and training for students, faculty and staff
- Provide regular communication between the collaborating institutions.
The Initiative’s office will be located in Freeman, S.D., and coordinated by medical school staff member, John Koch, Ph.D. Leadership from the health system will be provided by Daniel L. Gran, chief executive officer. Kenneth Kirton, M.D., will serve as the Rural Medical Clinics’ representative. H. Bruce Vogt, M.D, chair of the family medicine department, will represent the medical school.
