USD Mock Trial team qualifies for AMTA national championships
The team that will be competing consists of Madeline Breukelman, Sioux Falls, S.D., Austin Filips, Crofton, Neb., Hannah Fullenkamp, Broomfield, Colo., Breanna Helland, Frederick, S.D., Dereck Hurt, New Prague, Minn., Seth Lopour, Fort Pierre, S.D., Sam Sheffield, Huron, S.D., Katelyn Steffel, Alexandria, Minn., Nathaniel Steinlicht, Milbank, S.D. and Jacquelyn Wilson, Lemmon, S.D. By advancing to the championship, the USD team is among the top 48 mock trial teams in the country.
The USD mock trial team has been honored with several other awards along with their bid to nationals. The team received the Spirit of AMTA Award, which is given to the team who demonstrates the highest level of collegiality, civility and professionalism and is decided based on rankings, in which USD received 29 out of the 30 possible ranks. Sophomore Jacquelyn Wilson also received an Outstanding Attorney Award.
The team is under the direction of Sandy McKeown, associate professor of political science.
