USD names new chair of Social Work Department
VERMILLION, S.D. -- Jay Memmott, Ph.D., M.S.W., has been named chair of the Department of Social Work at the University of South Dakota. He will begin his tenure at USD on July 22.
Arriving at USD from Washburn University, Memmott has worked since 2002 as an associate professor of social work, and served as chair of the university’s social work department from 2002-2010. His research interests have included addictions treatment, mental health and social work education.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Memmott to campus,” said Michael Lawler, dean of the School of Health Sciences. “Our social work students and community partners will benefit from his clinical expertise and distinguished teaching background.”
Memmott earned both his master’s degree and doctorate in social work from the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare.
