USD Nursing Student Selected as South Dakota Nursing Student of the Year
Brinkley Lyon, a senior nursing student at the University of South Dakota, has been selected as South Dakota’s Outstanding Student Nurse for 2019. She was honored at the state’s annual gathering of nursing students, held earlier this month, with seven different higher education nursing institutions represented.
Lyon, a graduate of Riggs High School in Pierre, South Dakota, currently serves as president of the South Dakota Student Nursing Association and recently represented South Dakota at the National Student Nursing Association convention in Tennessee. She is credited with presenting and helping gain passage of a health care resolution at the national gathering encouraging lead screening for the public. She served as president of the USD affiliate for the state student nursing group in 2017-2018, and during her service to the USD and statewide student nursing association she has achieved the dean’s list four times.
Lyon is the second USD nursing student to receive this prestigious award in three years.
