USD Nursing Teddy Bear Den and Sioux Falls Area Foundation Partner on Education Campaign to Combat
Educational sessions describing safe sleep recommendations and safe sleep environments will be offered to expectant mothers, new parents and their families on the following dates and locations:
- March 11, Sunday, Oak View Library, 1-3 p.m. Oak View Library is located at 3700 E. 3rd Street, Sioux Falls.
- March 24, Saturday, at Teddy Bear Den, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. The Teddy Bear Den is located at 500 S. Main, in downtown Sioux Falls.
- April 3, Tuesday, at Educated Mommy (located at Elegant Mommy Store), 6-7 p.m. Elegant Mommy is located at 207 W. 37th Street, Sioux Falls.
Each attending mother and family will receive a portable crib and sheets.
According to Emily Smith, MSN, an instructor at USD Nursing, “SIDS remains a leading cause of infant mortality. In South Dakota, the rate of infant deaths due to SIDS is 58 per 100,000 live births.”
Smith and fellow USD Nursing faculty member Chris Tesch will be leading the educational sessions, and will be accompanied by their 4th semester nursing students.
“This project will present the infant safe sleep recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics,” said Smith.
