USD Nursings Pallav Deka Recognized for Scholarship
Pallav Deka, Ph.D., an assistant professor at the University of South Dakota’s Department of Nursing, has been recognized as the 2017 winner of the Charles E. Gibbs Leadership Prize. The prize recognizes outstanding manuscripts and original research that improve understanding of important women’s health issues.
Deka co-authored a manuscript with investigators from the University of Wisconsin, University of Memphis, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Their research project examined gender-related disparities regarding a patient’s adherence to medication instructions.
Deka was also recognized by the Midwest Nursing Research Society for his Ph.D. dissertation investigating influences regarding exercise and heart failure patients.
Deka began teaching at the USD Department of Nursing in 2017, joining over 40 other faculty members teaching 475 nursing students studying for their BSN degrees at the program’s four sites. Deka teaches at the Sioux Falls campus.
