From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, students and instructors from the various programs offered at USD, including occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, dental hygiene, social work, health administration, nutrition, speech pathology and audiology, will provide free health screenings at the Center for Active Generations, which is located behind the Western Mall at 2300 W. 46th St.

"Throughout the nation, most rural communities suffer from struggling economies making it difficult for them to provide many health services," explained Kayla Chaussee, a junior health services administration major and a coordinator of the event. "Our students participating in the health fair hope to provide some of these health services to the elderly community in Sioux Falls."

The Successful Aging Health Fair 2008 includes osteoporosis risk factor education, blood pressure screening, medication reviews, hearing aid assessments, cancer screening, glucose (blood sugar) exam, strength and balance screening, and nutrition information. Additionally, a bone density screening will be offered for $25. Door prizes will be distributed and healthy snacks will be provided. The event is free and participants can also register to win spring baskets.
