The award recognizes full-time faculty member of an accredited college or university and member of the American Physiology Society for excellence in classroom teaching; commitment to the improvement of physiology teaching; and contributions to physiology education at the local community, national or international levels. Goodman will be presented with the award at the Experimental Biology 2011 conference in Bethesda, Md., on April 11.

A member of the USD faculty since 1986, Goodman has been the director and principal investigator of South Dakota BRIN since 2001. The physiology program is a division of Basic Biomedical Sciences of the Sanford School of Medicine of The University of South Dakota. She received a B.A. in chemistry from Duke University and a Ph.D. in physiology from the University of Minnesota.
