Conceived by Rick Lewis, "The Taffetas" is a fresh and fun musical revue that brings to life popular music from the 1950s. The show focuses on four singing sisters who are making their national television debut. Using the format of a television show, "The Taffetas" features such hits as "Johnny Angel," "Dedicated to the One I Love," "Where The Boys Are," "Little Darlin'" and "You Don’t Own Me," and playfully transports audiences to an era of watching Sunday night television on a 12-inch black and white screen.

Darla Earnest, professional singer/actress and adjunct professor of theatre at The U, leads the cast of "The Taffetas." Earnest has performed internationally on both musical theatre and opera stages and as a concert soloist with numerous orchestras, including the South Dakota Symphony, the Orlando Philharmonic and Daytona Beach Symphony. She has also sung in the highly-acclaimed "Voices of Liberty" at EPCOT. Jessie Atkinson of Sioux City, Iowa, Anna Auchampach of Deadwood, S.D., and Elizabeth Wright of Yankton, S.D., all students in The U’s musical theatre program, join Earnest to form "The Taffetas." Charlotte Guyette, associate professor of theatre, is the director while Bruce Earnest, artistic director of the Playhouse, directs the music and Jonnie Stapleton of South Sioux City, Neb., is choreographer.
