“We're not really aware of a lot of prejudices because they are built into society. We refer to these prejudices as implicit biases,” said Popova. “The way that we frame our ideas or worldviews are centered on our upbringing and our experiences. We have to realize that everything around us shapes who we are and how we see the world. Our prejudices, or our biases, are a reflection of the attitudes and the stereotypes that affect our understandings, our worldviews, our actions and our decisions.”

Popova obtained her bachelor's degree in international studies, master’s degree in education and doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Virginia Tech University. Through her research, she explores the sociocultural contexts of learning, indigenous and endarkened methodologies, critical autoethnography, implicit bias, and the intersections of privilege, power and social justice.
