In a collaboration between the school and the Vermillion Veterans of Foreign Wars, education students can work in pairs to research a fallen hero from Clay County. Winners will receive $300 and a Vermillion VFW certificate, and their work will be preserved at the Clay County Historical Society. Second and third place will win $200 and $100, respectively, and will also receive VFW certificate.

The School of Education aims to recognize veteran status as a key part of the university's diversity and inclusiveness.
