USD students spend the summer interning studying abroad
Through USD Global Learning in the Center for Academic Engagement, 129 students are studying in Europe, North Africa, Asia, and Central and South America. All come from a diverse collection of academic majors, including education, communication, political science, psychology, vocal music, biology and law.
Students who are participating in or have completed independent study abroad programs include Luke Fuhrman of Canistota, S.D., Jennifer Gieselman of Sioux City, Iowa and Teresa Johnson of Sioux Falls, S.D., (Costa Rica); Bailie Cronin and Collin Michels of Yankton, S.D., Ben Hardy and Leigh Rezac of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Meredith Holmberg of Vermillion (Spain); Christina Roberts of Omaha, Neb. and Kaitilin Strayer of Sioux City, Iowa (Italy); Brianna Clark of Woodbury, Minn. (England); Monique Ellefson of Sioux Falls, S.D. (Argentina); Jessie Milstead of Hartford, S.D. (Morocco); Elizabeth Horton of Vermillion and Heather Worthington of Sioux Falls, S.D. (France); Peter Nelson of Canton, S.D. and Christina Ray of Sioux Falls, S.D. (Netherlands); Kirstin Roble of Spring Grove, Minn. (Austria); Sarah Scherr of Jamestown, N.D. (Scotland); Kayla Smith of Woodbury, Minn. (Peru); Jeff Stup of Fort Mill, S.C. (Romania); and Lindsey VanBeek of Inwood, Iowa (Bolivia).
An additional 107 students are participating in or have already completed short-term international faculty-led programs this summer. These include Politics and Culture of Turkey led by Professor Tim Schorn (Political Science & International Studies); International Business and Economics Studies in Germany led by Professor David Carr (Economics); The Islands of Greece led by Professors Clayton Lehmann (History), Brennan Jordan (Earth Sciences) and Nelson Stone (Philosophy & Religion); Culture and Psychology of Italy and Culture and Psychology of Costa Rica led by Professor Holly Straub (Psychology); Culture Care Theory for Leaders in Healthcare – Italy led by Professor Carole South-Winter (Health Sciences); U.S.-Chinese Comparative Law led by Professor Tom Geu (Law); and History and Civilization of Costa Rica led by Professor Kristine Djerf (Spanish).
