The concert will feature the winners of the 2017-18 USD Concerto/Aria Competition. Ken Wang, international graduate student from Taiwan will perform the first movement of Tchaikovsky's celebrated Violin Concerto Op. 35. Graduate student Samuelle Reese (tenor) and Sophomore Mikayla Trenhaile (soprano) will be performing arias by Donizetti and Gounod, under the direction of graduate students Krissy Blunck and Michael Ugrich.

The Concerto/Aria Competition winners were selected among 20 contestants representing the best music students at USD.

The second half of the program features the Overture for the opera Nabucco by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, conducted by Luis Viquez, D.M.A., director of orchestral activities and music director of the USD Symphony Orchestra. The joint choral/orchestral piece for this year is Franz Schubert's Mass in G major, which will be conducted by David Holdhusen, Ph.D., director of choral activities and chair of the Department of Music.

The event is free and open to the public.
