USD Theatre goes on a witty quest for knowledge with Tom Stoppards Arcadia
“Arcadia” is a story that blurs the lines between past and present, and the audience will see the story unfold in 1809 and into the present day. The play examines the nature of truth, time and the influence of sex on people’s lives, and the desire for knowledge is at the heart of the story. In 1809, the precocious young Thomasina Coverly played by Ceci Quintero of Centennial, Colo. and her tutor, Septumus Hodge, played by Brian Muldoon of Sioux Falls, S.D., must address the meaning of a “carnal embrace,” while in the present day at the same home Hannah Jarvis, played by Jamie Fields of Bellevue, Neb., and Bernard Nightingale, played by Andy Hanson of Rapid City, S.D., search for answers about Lord Byron’s time at the estate. It isn’t until the two worlds overlap that either group finds the answers they’ve been looking for. The production is under the direction of third-year M.F.A./Directing candidate, Callie Hisek of Ames, Iowa.
“Arcadia” performs Oct. 9 -12 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens (62+), $10 for K-12 and non-USD students with ID, and $5 for USD students with an ID.
