USD to honor Native student graduates on Friday May 8
Sponsored by the Department of American Indian Studies, the Office of Institutional Diversity, Native Student Services and TRiO programs at The U, the Native Student Graduate Honoring is an evening for families, staff, faculty and USD students to honor Native student graduates. All graduating Native American students will receive a unique stole in recognition of their achievement. Each stole was specially prepared for this special occasion. Using satin and incorporating all of the six sacred colors of red, black, white, yellow, green and blue, the men's stoles include an appliquéd emblem of an eagle feather while the women's stoles feature an emblem of a plume.
In addition to the stole ceremony, the Native Student Graduate Honoring includes an awards ceremony to recognize students for leadership on campus as well as those students who have achieved academic excellence. For more information about this event, please contact Erin Contreras, interim chief diversity officer and Native student advisor, Office of Institutional Diversity, (605) 677-6497 or e-mail [email protected].
