USD to Host National Social Work Conference
Among key themes of the 40th annual conference are issues related to Native Americans, mental and physical health issues related to residents of rural communities, challenges in rural social work and preparing social workers to work in rural areas. The conference’s opening session begins at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, and features presentations and discussions about Native American issues and traditions.
The evening banquet on Thursday, July 16 is highlighted by a keynote presentation by Michael Lawler, Ph.D., MSW on the well-being of children in rural communities. Lawler is dean of the School of Health Sciences at the University of South Dakota, and he is also is a professor in the USD Department of Social Work.
Most conference events will take place in the Muenster University Center on the USD campus.
