The symposium explores opportunities for better analysis, modeling and prediction using Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and supercomputing.

“Attendants will learn how to make sense of big data with the use of AI and ML tools and techniques in the supercomputing setup,” said Santosh KC, Ph.D., symposium co-chair, assistant professor and graduate coordinator in the computer science department.

Subject matter experts in the fields of computer science, mathematics and business analytics will discuss how to intelligently harness and analyze data across many fields including chemistry, physics, biology, bioinformatics, health sciences, energy and business.

“In today’s world, big data and analytics are everywhere. Our symposium will help attendees understand how to extract insights from data in different fields and see those insights translated into problem solutions,” said Thomas Tiahrt, Ph.D., symposium co-chair, assistant professor and program coordinator for the POET Center for business analytics in Beacom.

The symposium speakers include Steve Lewis, vice president of technology and innovation at POET; Olaf Storaasli, Ph.D., NASA’s finite-element machine developer; Murat Sincan, Ph.D., director of computational medical informatics for Sanford Imagenetics; and Justin Smith, Ph.D., enterprise director of data and analytics for Sanford Health.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information and to register for the symposium, visit the USD website.
