According to Matthew Moen, Ph.D., dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at USD, the B.S. in medical biology is a stepping stone for students hoping to attend medical school or a graduate program in health sciences.

“Medical biology is a logical major for students wishing to attend the Sanford School of Medicine,” said Moen, “and its addition only strengthens USD’s regional reputation as a center of learning and discovery in the life sciences and medicine.”

The new medical biology degree is designed to prepare USD students for admission into medical school and other health care professional programs, including dentistry, physician assistant, physical therapy and podiatry. The program’s curriculum will also reflect the latest national trends in medical education and is a collaborative effort between the Sanford School of Medicine and USD’s College of Arts & Sciences.

“It is exciting to have faculty from the College of Arts & Sciences and the School of Medicine working together to offer this opportunity to students interested in obtaining the best preparation for careers in the medical profession,” added Ron Lindahl, Ph.D., executive dean of the Sanford School of Medicine.
