USD Vocalists Perform During 10th Annual Spring Showcase
Last week the voices of University of South Dakota students rang through the Colton Recital Hall during the Gesteland Studio Showcase.
On April 8, students from Tracelyn Gesteland’s, D.M.A., voice studio sang music ranging from classical art songs to operatic arias to musical theatre songs. Each student performed a solo, followed by a grand finale consisting of a medley of famous Broadway numbers, culminating in the group song, “You Will Be Found,” from the musical Dear Evan Hansen. The 10th annual spring showcase included freshmen through graduate student vocalists and their pianists.
“I think that it is important to celebrate student achievement, and that is really the purpose of the showcase,” Gesteland said. “I want the singers to have a great time on stage performing for their friends and family, and I want to give the audience a fun experience as well.”
