USDs Missouri River Institute director to give keynote address
As part of the Foundation’s annual meeting July 30 through Aug. 3, Cowman is one of several speakers and presenters. His presentation, “Changes in the Missouri River Valley Landscape between Yankton and Omaha since the Lewis and Clark Expedition,” will address the early origins of the Missouri River and its physical changes in the last 200 years. Cowman, who has served as director of the Missouri River Institute since 2007, will also discuss how the cultural aspects of the river have changed since Lewis and Clark’s journey.
“USD is fortunate to have such an important research resource as the Missouri River Institute,” said Laura Jenski, vice president of research at USD. “The Institute’s research helps facilitate understanding of the short-term and long-term consequences of the current flooding and makes predictions regarding future flooding.”
