Trenhaile, a senior at Yankton High School, plans to major in music in the Department of Music beginning this fall. The award is given out biennially to an outstanding South Dakota high school senior who will major in art, music or theatre at USD. It provides funding for in-state tuition and fees, up to 16 credits per semester, for four years.

“Mikayla is an outstanding young woman,” said Tracelyn Gesteland, D.M.A., an associate professor and the Walter A. and Lucy Yoshioka Buhler Endowed Chair who will be her voice professor. “She is an excellent singer who possesses a level of artistry beyond many others her age. She is very deserving of this prestigious scholarship, and we are very much looking forward to guiding her through her musical endeavors.”
