Knudson School of Law Dual Degree Program Opens Doors for Students Interested in Environmental Law

“The ability to further explore my passion for environmental law by becoming a part of the Vermont Law Community has made my time in law school memorable and has provided me with more understanding of the intersection between the field of law and the natural world,” said Moravek. “The partnership between the two schools makes each stand out as an advocate for more well-rounded attorneys.”
Vermont Law & Graduate School, located in South Royalton, Vermont, is in the top five schools for environmental law in the nation. USD’s 30-credit dual degree program with Vermont Law & Graduate School allows students to receive a Master of Environmental Law and Policy concurrent with their J.D.
Moravek applied for the program upon completion of her first year at the USD Knudson School of Law. Once accepted, she transferred nine of her USD credits into her curriculum at Vermont Law & Graduate School, and then flew to Vermont in the summer between her first and second years to complete 11 additional credits.
The summer between her second and third year, Moravek completed seven credit hours of externship at Northern Prairies Land Trust in Sioux Falls. She also completed her final public policy course requirement from Vermont Law & Graduate School online.
Moravek will graduate in May with her J.D. from the USD Knudson School of Law and her Master of Environmental Law and Policy (MELP) from Vermont Law & Graduate School.
“I knew I wanted to practice environmental law from a young age and this degree allowed me to gain a bit of specialty while still staying in the Midwest,” Moravek said. “I’ve already had potential employers in interviews ask me about the degree and state that they thought it stood out.”
