Payment and Insurance

• We accept all Delta Dental insurance plans and South Dakota Medicaid. 
• All major credit cards, cash, check, online payments and Coyote Cash accepted.

Parking

• Our clinic has entrances located on the south and north sides at the corner of Dakota and East Clark (accessible). 
• The parking lot is located on the corner of Dakota and East Cedar. 

Interpretive Services

• If you require interpretive services, please let us know prior to your appointment.

We follow all Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for health care facilities. For the protection of our patients, we adhere to infection control procedures known as standard precautions. 

The department will not deny access to dental or dental hygiene services and/or admission to the program to any individual based on race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, socioeconomic status, or the presence of any bloodborne infectious disease. The Department of Dental Hygiene adheres to standard infection control practices for all patients. We sterilize all instruments and utilize disposable products whenever possible.

Local anesthesia and nitrous oxide/oxygen sedation are available as needed. Patients will be advised of their treatment needs and will be appropriately referred for procedures that cannot be provided by the program. Comprehensive dental exams and limited restorative services are available in the Sioux Falls Dental Clinic.

*Masks and social distancing is recommended in healthcare facilities per the CDC.

Patient Rights and Care Policy & Privacy Practices

We value you as a patient in our facilities. We respect your rights but also ask that you recognize your responsibilities. Should you at any time feel that your rights as a patient have not been upheld, or if you have any other complaints, please contact the department chairperson at 605-658-5959.

The patient rights and care policy is posted in the Delta Dental Oral Health Center and patients are given the opportunity to read the policy during each appointment and can request a paper copy.

• The department complies with all federal and state regulations for radiation hygiene and protection. OSHA guidelines are followed including the labeling of units and operatories emitting ionizing radiation. 
• Radiographs (x-rays) are exposed in this clinic only when their use will assist in dental hygiene treatment planning and care or upon request of the patient or the patient’s dentist. Radiographs (x-rays) are exposed for diagnostic purposes only and not for the purpose of improving student skills.
• The decision to retake radiograph(s) will be determined by an instructor and student and based upon the need to obtain diagnostically acceptable films for use in this clinic or by the patient’s dentist. All retaken radiographs will be done only with the assistance of an instructor.
• Radiographs are exposed following policies established for the protection of the patient and operator. We will be glad to discuss these policies and answer any of your questions. 
• Our department will gladly send radiographic images exposed in this clinic to the patient’s dentist. It is essential for the radiographic images to be evaluated by an instructor before leaving the Department and the consent to provide information to the dentist completed. It is our goal to present the dentist with diagnostically acceptable radiographic images for continuing dental care. 
• Radiographs are exposed after the completion of the patient’s medical-dental history and clinical exam. The type of radiograph necessary and frequency of exposure are based upon guidelines established by representatives from the Academies of General Dentistry, Dental Radiology, Oral Medicine, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontology and the American Dental Association. This panel is sponsored by the Food and Drug Administration. Detailed recommendations are posted in our clinic and radiology area and available to patients or interested individuals.

The Commission on Dental Accreditation will review complaints that relate to a program's compliance with the accreditation standards.  The Commission is interested in the sustained quality and continued improvement of dental and dental-related education programs but does not intervene on behalf of individuals or act as a court of appeal for individuals in matters of admission, appointment, promotion or dismissal of faculty, staff or students. 

Please note that signed or unsigned comments will be accepted, names and/or signatures will be removed from comments prior to forwarding them to the program, and comments must pertain only to the standards for the particular program or policies and procedures used in the Commission’s accreditation process.

The Commission, upon request, will take every reasonable precaution to prevent the identity of the complainant from being revealed to the program; however, the Commission cannot guarantee the confidentiality of the complainant. The Commission strongly encourages attempts at informal or formal resolution through the program's or sponsoring institution's internal processes prior to initiating a formal complaint with the Commission.

The USD Department of Dental Hygiene is scheduled for an accreditation site visit on October  11-13, 2022. Complaints and/or comments must be submitted to the Commission 60 days prior to this site visit.
