Greetings from the Department of Pediatrics at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. It is my honor to lead a department recognized for its record of superb patient care, excellence in teaching and scholarship and advocacy for the health and well-being of children.
Spread over 17 divisions and three clinical campuses, our nearly 200 academic and clinical faculty members are role models for our learners and provide a high quality education for medical students and residents in the field of pediatrics. The pediatric interest groups on various campuses provide opportunities for medical students interested in pediatrics to learn about the discipline from faculty and residents.
Our faculty members are also leaders in providing continuous professional development and community education. Supported by our dedicated staff, our faculty members represent a community of scholars performing externally funded research, presenting their work at regional, national and international conferences, and publishing peer-reviewed articles in the highest impact journals, as well as books and book chapters. Our faculty mentoring program for junior faculty has demonstrated its success in integrating new faculty members into our department.
We are particularly proud of our pediatric residency program which graduated its first class in June 2014. Our residents have demonstrated their commitment to the success of the program by being actively involved in the educational process as advocates for their patients, as enthusiastic participants in clinical and basic research as well as quality improvement projects, and as champions for community engagement. Finally, our faculty and residents also serve as advocates for the health and well-being of all children.
As department chair, I welcome you to our department and the many services that its members are engaged in.
Dr. Archana Chatterjee
