The program is a collaborative effort between Sanford Health in Vermillion and Beacom’s Administration of Health Services Organizations course (HSAD 435). The students in the course gain the real-world experience of hosting an event that protects the community.

“We are excited to continue providing students with a quick and easy option to get their flu shot between classes,” said Jewel Goodman Shepherd, Ph.D., assistant professor of health services administration. “In our course, we have several discussions on the importance of increased access to essential care, and this flu shot clinic was an example of just that.”

A total of 58 students, staff and faculty received their flu shots this year during the 2-hour event.

For the past four years, the students enrolled in HSAD 435 have worked with Sanford Health Vermillion’s clinic director to assist with the administration of the flu shot clinic across campus and in the community. After holding the clinic in Beacom Hall for the first-time last year, Shepherd decided to continue to offer the service in the convenient location.
