The Fall Choral Showcase is at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion. Under the direction of David Holdhusen, Ph.D., director of choral activities and assistant professor of music at USD, the concert features the Men’s and Women’s Chorus, the USD Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. This is the first performance of the new academic year for the USD choral program and it is free and open to the public.

The concert features performances by the Chamber Singers, who were selected as a featured ensemble for the upcoming SDMEA Conference in Aberdeen, S.D., in conjunction with the South Dakota All-State Chorus and Orchestra.

“This is a nice honor,” noted Holdhusen, who said the Chamber Singers will perform many of its Fall Choral Showcase selections at the conference. “This is a good opportunity to showcase the choir.”

The Concert Choir will perform selections from the Mozart Requiem at the Fall Choral Showcase on Halloween. The Concert Choir will perform the entire Requiem with the Sioux City (Iowa) Symphony at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Orpheum Theatre. Tickets for this performance are available through the Symphony’s Web site: www.siouxcitysymphony.org. The ensemble was invited to serve as the choir for this masterwork by the Symphony’s conductor, Ryan Haskins.

“The choir has been working very hard on this piece,” Holdhusen added. “It is a massive undertaking to prepare this work for a performance with a professional orchestra so early in the year. I know this will be an unforgettable experience for the students.”
