Winners in 24 categories will be announced and awards will be presented to all finalists at the awards ceremony on Friday, Oct. 30 at the 88th annual National College Media Convention in Austin, Texas. Four KYOT-TV productions are finalists for Best Newscast, Best Public Service Announcement (PSA), Best Comedy and Best Promo. Nominated for Best Newscast is a “U. News” broadcast from Nov. 19, 2008. USD students contributing to the KYOT program include Nicholas Anson, producer; Clark Young, editor; Emily Hunhoff, assignment editor; and Ryan Moore, sports director. “USD Theatre Department,” produced by student Skye Giebink, is a finalist for Best PSA while “How-To: Relationship Mistakes,” is a nominee for Best Comedy. That “U. News” segment was produced by students Jamie Bulian, Jeff Kleeman and Bryce Riediger. “Fall in Love with U. News,” a finalist for Best Promo, was produced by Jessica Weisz and the U. Imagine Practicum, which includes Jacob Arthur, Liz Belt, Kyle Carter, Nathan Hinseth, Nicholas Severson, Sarah Strunk, Joey White and James Zimiga.

KYOT-TV is a student-run cable television station owned by USD and operated by The U’s Department of Contemporary Media and Journalism. KYOT provides students with hands-on experience to prepare them for communication careers by participation in various positions and activities involved in the administration, creation, production, and marketing of programming and the station.
