The panel discussion will provide an opportunity for students and community members to interact with a variety of experts and advocates who are dedicated to combating sexual violence.

Panelists include University Police Chief Bryant Jackson, Vermillion Police Chief Crystal Brady, Vermillion Police Investigative Lieutenant Drew Gortmaker, Clay County State’s Attorney Michael Smith, and River City Domestic Violence Center Education and Survivor Services Supervisor Anna Meredith. Student Government Association Vice President Libby Brust will moderate the panel.

“USD actively coordinates with the Vermillion Police Department, the Clay County State’s Attorney, victim advocates like the River City Domestic Violence Center, mental health professionals, and others to ensure we are providing a comprehensive, coordinated response to sexual violence and interpersonal violence,” said Jackson. “It is this coordinated response that helps to ensure victims are supported and connected to the right resources.”

“The issue of sexual assault concerns us all, as it affects the safety and welfare of our entire community,” said Brust. “Student Government Association recognizes the need for collective action to address the issue of sexual violence and create a safer community for us all. We hope to promote awareness, educate on prevention strategies, and collaborate to inform about resources available to students and community members.”
