USD Criminal Justice Professor Feimer Publishes Book on Vietnam War
With personal interviews conducted over the course of eight years, each unique story is coupled with “in-country” photographs taken by the veterans themselves.
Jack Marsh, retired President and CEO of the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute and the Al Neuharth Media Center at USD, reviewed “Vietnam Vets: Still Coming Home.” He said, “Veterans share their insights and tell many previously untold stories of America’s most controversial and misunderstood war in this book. It’s a compilation of 31 in-depth interviews with Vietnam Vets who have ties to South Dakota and the surrounding region. The GIs, both draftees and volunteers, give their unique perspective on military service during a divisive, deeply troubled period in US history. They candidly discuss their emotions then and since, training and combat experiences, observations of valor, their return home and how their lives were forever changed. Each of the 31 chapters could be a short story or a basis for a screenplay.”
All proceeds from book sales will be donated to veterans’ service organizations such as the South Dakota Disabled American Veterans Association and the Paralyzed Veterans of America of South Dakota chapter. The writing and publishing of “Vietnam Vets: Still Coming Home” has been funded by private donations, the Chiesman Center for Democracy, and the authors themselves.
