The items were donated to Furniture Mission in Sioux Falls, Pathways in Yankton and The Warming Shelter and Lutheran Services, both in Sioux City, Iowa. Beds were also donated to the Mennonite Church in Kansas and will be given to children and foster families through Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

“Being able to help our neighbors is crucial to leaving a positive impact in the community,” said Kate Fitzgerald, University Housing director. “Many of the beds will be used to help families have beds for the children, many of whom sleep on floors or in crowded beds with siblings, and some will be used to help people set up their own homes after being homeless or immigrating to the area.”

About 55 chairs from Coyote Village were also donated to Lutheran Services.

The beds and mattresses were removed from Richardson Hall, which is undergoing renovation, and Brookman Hall, which is scheduled to be razed this fall.
