Service Learning

Bridge your classroom learning to community engagement. Service learning is a form of experiential education that enhances learning and development through meaningful engagement in the community, in-depth educational exploration in real-world contexts, and intentional reflection.

Through the Office of Service Learning (OSL), USD offers opportunities for volunteering and community engagement. Connecting education to community-based activities to address significant needs, the goal is to encourage students to become life-long active citizens. Students can get acquainted with community engagement by:

  • Participating in weekend experiences or week-long excursions
  • Signing up to volunteer with one of our many community partners
  • Registering to assist with fundraising for our local initiatives

I would 100% recommend it [New Yotes Community Engagement]."

"How amazing and incredible this community is! "AWOL is a judge-free zone."

"I really liked it [NYCE]. Now that classes have started, it's like I'm always seeing someone from AWOL in class, at lunch, or around campus."

"It [AWOL] has impacted me in a way that I will never be able to explain. It made me realize that there is no reason to ever complain about something small.
