You will be able to apply concepts from operations and supply chain management to solve business problems including increasing operational efficiency, managing logistics, sourcing and waste reduction. This certificate offers students an in-depth study of network relationship integration, quality and process improvement methods, and project management, which maximizes the effective use of a firm’s resources. Topics include process flow diagrams, current and future state value stream maps, constraint theory, effective process configuration, operational decision-making, and managerial strategies leveraging computing technologies. Graduates will be prepared to apply the science of getting things done, to the practice of managing logistics, sourcing, quality, scheduling and production.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates job growth in General and Operations Managers to be 7.1 percent and Operations Research Analysts to be 30.2 percent, over the next eight years. Additionally, the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation estimates job growth in the area of business operations specialists to be over four percent over the next eight years. Typical jobs in this area include supply chain manager, plant manager, materials manager, purchasing manager, operations research analyst, facilities coordinator or quality assurance manager.
